21 Days of Prayer – Day 5

Pastor Mark Price Blog

The Bible does not say very much about the relationship with our in-laws. Genesis 2:24 states, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” In this scripture, we see the establishing of the relationship between a husband and a wife, which we know as marriage. Marriage also establishes the relationship of mother/father-in-law to their child’s spouse.

Today, take the time to pray for your in-laws. Pray for your relationship with them to be healthy and one that is without contention. Pray for your in-law’s marriage to be one that is vibrant, fulfilling and meets each one of their needs as an individual. Pray for the happiness and fulfillment of their lives. Pray that your in-laws will love and honor you as the spouse of their son/daughter. Pray for mutual respect and that they will honor the boundaries of your marriage.

Ephesians 6:1-3, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’ —which is the first commandment with a promise— ‘that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.’” Honor is always a proper response with our relationship to the parents of our spouse.

Pray:

“My Father in heaven, today, I pray for my in-laws. I pray that they are healthy in their marriage and that their marriage is a life-giving relationship to each of them. I pray for their relationship with me to be absent of judgment and hurt. May their marriage be an example to me and my spouse. Help my in-laws to not overstep their place in my marriage to their son/daughter. Bless them in every area of their lives. I am blessed to have them as my in-laws! Amen!”

***If you are not married, pray for your future in-laws. If you do not plan on getting married, pray for the in-laws of other couples that are close to you.***
