When You Pray: 10 New Testament Prayers for Yourself

Ephesians 1:17-19 [NIV] “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that I may know Him better. I pray also that the eyes of my heart may be enlightened in order that I may know the hope to which He has called me, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe.”

Ephesians 3:14-21 [NIV] “For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom His whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen me with power through His Spirit in my inner being, so that Christ may dwell in my heart through faith. And I pray that I would be rooted and established in love, and may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that I may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all I can ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within me, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.”

Philippians 1:9-11 [NIV] “And this is my prayer: that my love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that I may be able to discern what is best for me and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ — to the glory and praise of God.”

Philippians 2:1-5 [NIV] “I am encouraged from being united with Christ, I am comforted by His love, I am in fellowship with the Spirit, I am tender and compassionate, my joy is complete because I am like-minded, I have the same love, I am one in spirit and purpose. I do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility, I consider others better than myself. I will not look only to my own interests, but also to the interests of others. My attitude is the same as that of Christ Jesus.”

Colossians 1:9-14 [NIV] “For this reason, since the day I heard about the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, I have not stopped asking God to fill me with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And I pray this in order that I may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that I may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified me to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For He has rescued me from the dominion of darkness and brought me into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom I have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 [NIV] “May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify me through and through. May my whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls me is faithful and He will do it.”

2 Thessalonians 3:1-5 [NIV] “I pray that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it is with me. And I pray that I may be delivered from wicked and evil men, for not everyone has faith. But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect me from the evil one. I have confidence in the Lord that I am doing and will continue to do the things commanded. May the Lord direct my heart into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.”

Philemon 4-7 [NIV] “I always thank my God as I pray for myself, because I have faith in the Lord Jesus and I have love for all the saints. I pray that I may be active in sharing my faith, so that I will have a full understanding of every good thing I have in Christ. I have joy and I am encouraged, because I have refreshed the hearts of the saints.”

Hebrews 13:20-21 [NIV] “May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip me with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in me what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”

3 John 2 [NKJV] “I pray that I may prosper in all things and be in health, just as my soul prospers.”
